The Eastern Partnership Programme

The Eastern Partnership Research Programme analyses the political, economic and socio-cultural processes associated with the Eastern Partnership countries and their foreign and domestic policies. Particular attention is paid to the process of integration of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia into the European Union, their internal reforms, the sustainability of democracy and the development of civil society. Publications and events aim to deepen understanding of the strategic and geopolitical objectives of Eastern European countries, their impact on Europe and transatlantic relations, as well as on Lithuania’s strategic objectives. With the diminishing effectiveness of coercion measures aimed at Moldova in the economic and energy spheres, Russia is increasingly relying on elements of its 'soft power'. This encompasses the fertile informational environment in Moldova, where Russian narratives tend to be easily absorbed by the public. This phenomenon has persisted since Moldova's independence but was largely ignored, especially by political stakeholders, until the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014.

About Eastern Partnership Programme

Established in early 2020, the Eastern Partnership Research Programme of the Eastern Europe Studies Centre analyses political, economic and socio-cultural processes related to the Eastern Partnership countries and their foreign policies. The research programme is coordinated by analysts and associate experts from the Eastern Europe Studies Centre.

Denis Cenusa

Associate Expert at the EESC and Research Fellow and PhD student at the Institute of Political Science at the Justus Lybig University of Giessen, Germany, researching global governance and the resilience of countries in the EU neighbourhood. He has published extensively between 2015 and 2021 on European integration, EU-Russia interaction, good governance and energy security in Eastern Europe. Mr Cenusa is also an Associate Expert at the Moldova think tank Expert-Grup, where since 2015 he has been coordinating a SIDA-funded joint project with the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels on Sakartvel, Moldova and Ukraine.

Saulius Rimutis

Saulius Rimutis graduated from Vilnius University Institute of International Relations and Political Science (VU IIRPS) with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science in 2021 and from VU IIRPS with a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy in 2023. Saulius has experience in the energy sector working for the National Energy Regulatory Council. He is currently pursuing his career in a state-owned energy company as a strategic planning analyst. His main areas of interest are national security, energy and warfare.
